Supporting Immigrant Students

Our Immigration Legal Services program staff have been very busy with school trainings this year! They have completed trainings for Boston Adult Technical Academy, 5DP school districts surrounding Boston, BINCA, and are scheduled to do another presentation with the Revere public schools in January. These trainings are designed to provide information to school staff about how best to support immigrant students.
In September, we restarted our Forms Workshop, in partnership with the Boston Bar Association. Rian’s forms workshop assists members of our community with completing immigration forms, including citizenship applications, applications for temporary protected status, green card renewals, and work permit renewals. So far, Rian staff and volunteers have helped 20 folks complete their applications, and we are continuing to schedule more workshops! If you are interested in volunteering, you can sign up here:
We have taken on two full representation cases for Venezuelans negatively impacted by the Martha’s Vineyard flight, and Cristina Dacchille Freeman crafted a presentation for staff at St. Francis House, a Boston area shelter that was severely impacted by recent arrivals.
Lastly, we are happy to announce that Lara Wagner was promoted to Associate Director of ILS in November, and that Jackie Kelley is returning to the office on January 11, 2023, and will resume leadership of our medical legal partnerships. We will say goodbye to our wonderful Northeastern Co-ops Julian, Kelly, and Bianca in mid-December. They have been wonderful members of our team and we will miss them dearly, but we are excited to welcome our new co-ops, Chloe and Samantha, in January!
